Date: Saturday, February 19 - Monday, February 21 (President's Day weekend - Scouts in the Chapel Hill-Carrboro school district were supposed to have Monday off but it has become a snow make-up day. If you speak to your scout's teacher in advance, you may be able to get the absence excused for educational reasons)
Location: Patriot's Point - USS Yorktown, Charleston, SC
Cost: $80 per person (All payments are due to Anne Halstater by Friday, December 3rd).
This is a trip that we have held every other year for the last few years due to popular demand. Scouts and their families get to sleep in the berthing areas where the USS Yorktown's sailors once slept and learn about naval and aviation history. The scouts always have a lot of fun!!!!
Each camping package includes tours, meals and entertainment plus an excursion to a second, great educational attraction in Charleston.For our pack it will be either the Charleston Explorer, South Carolina Aquarium or Boone Hill Plantation. We won't know which excursion until the week before the trip.
All participants need to meet at the USS Yorktown parking lot at 3:30 pm on Saturday 2/19. We need to enter the ship as a group. Please note that it is five hour drive from Chapel Hill, so please plan accordingly.
Items to bring:
Class B shirt
They provide a bare mattress on the bunk. You will want to bring a pillow and a sleeping bag or sheets and blankets.
Clothing
Toiletries
Ear plugs (it is loud in the sleeping quarters)
No carry-on food or drinks are allowed. A snack bar and vending machines are available.
You will have a lot of free time so you may want to go explore Charleston.
